Shuddh Desi Romance (An authentic Desi Romance) is an Indian romantic comedy film[1] directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film features Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and newcomer Vaani Kapoor in leading roles. The film will release on September 6, 2013.[2] It will screen in the Gala Presentation section of the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.[3
Plot
Shuddh Desi Romance is a fresh rom-com about the hair-raising minefield between love, attraction and commitment. The movie is based in today’s modern yet desi heartland. Sushant Singh Rajput plays the role of a casual “Boy-next-door” Raghu and Parineeti Chopra plays the bold role of Gayatri – his lover.[4]

He may have been brusque with a fan who wanted his autograph in a hotel washroom, but Rishi Kapoor is normally sweet to everyone. More importantly, he has a charming habit of being modest in the most endearing ways, like introducing his wife to this reporter many years ago with, “This is my wife, Neetu,” or offering a giant pastry, and when asked the occasion, stating, “You; you are the occasion!”
But Kapoor, who remembers long lines of dialogue, finds it difficult to remember names of people and has a very lovable, almost Wodehousian habit of calling everyone by different names each time.
On the sets of his upcoming film “Shuddh Desi Romance,” he would keep calling his co-stars Parineeti Chopra, Sushant Singh Rajput and the crew members different names each time without realizing. The younger unit on the sets of the film found this habit very endearing, and Kapoor sportingly admits to the habit and laughs about it.
Chopra calls this trait adorable. She says, “Rishi-ji doesn’t remember anyone’s name. So he would keep calling everyone by different names. And what he will call you next is always a surprise. The best thing is that it is he who laughs the most about this habit!”
What the unit does not know is that the actor even laughingly admits that when the words “shuddh desi” come to mind, the only word he associates with them is “ghee.” The film, therefore, is referred to as “Shuddh Desi Ghee” by the actor. Well now, the Kapoors have always been foodies!
Sushant Singh Rajput's role in his upcoming film Shuddh Desi Romance bears a striking similarity to his real life. Just like how he is portrayed in the romantic comedy, Sushant too is a small-town lad and has been in a live-in relationship with his girlfriend.
According to sources, director Maneesh Sharma had an easy time explaining his role to the actor while for Sushant too, stepping into his character's shoes was a cakewalk. Our source says, "Sushant hails from Patna while his live-in sweetheart Ankita Lokhande hails from Indore. He has been quite open about his relationship just like in the film. They have stood by each other through thick and thin.
In the film, he and his on screen girlfriend Parineeti Chopra are shown to be in a similar situation. In real life as well, he knows the pros and cons about living together.
