The film, which is expected to be shot with motion capture in 3D,

Shooting for the film was finished by the end of February 2013, and post-production works are currently going on at London, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and mostly China.
Development
Rajinikanth's next film, after Shankar's Enthiran (2010), was supposed to be Rana, a historical drama film to be directed by K. S. Ravikumar and dually-produced by Soundarya R. Ashwin's Ocher Picture Productions and Eros Entertainment. However, Rajinikanth became ill and was treated for dehydration and exhaustion at a hospital, resulting in postponement of Rana's filming. On 23 November 2011, for her maiden directorial project,
Soundarya tweeted through her Twitter account, notifying followers to watch out for an official announcement. The following day, she announced that her father's next film would be titled Kochadaiyaan and that she was "[grateful and] excited to be directing [her] father". A tentatively scheduled release period of August 2012 was also announcedThe film was finalised to be a co-production of Eros Entertainment and Media One Global. Soundarya further stated that K. S. Ravikumar had worked with her father and herself on the script of the film With regards to the film's title, Ravikumar claimed that it drew reference to an alternate name of Hindu deity Shiva, while also being partly inspired by the name of the Pandya Dynasty king Kochadaiyan Ranadhiran, and that the plot would be a fictional account with small references to Indian history.
The director clarified that Kochadaiiyaan was not related to the same-titled history series being published by the Tamil magazine Kumudam. In May 2012, Soundarya announced that Kochadaiiyaan is a prequel to Rana.
For the female lead role, Anushka Shetty was initially approached, but sources confirmed later that she was not part of the film. It was then rumoured that Asin Thottumkal and Vidya Balan were being considered for the role, since producers preferred a Bollywood actress. Soundarya R. Ashwin approached Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif in January 2012,
who was not able to give her dates and the team reapproached Balan. Despite reports that Kaif was finalised,] Deepika Padukone, who was slated to pair with Rajinikanth in Rana, took up the offer in February 2012,
marking her debut in Tamil cinema. Padukone was paid a salary of INR3 crore (US$460,000) for shooting only for two days in the film.According to Soundarya, she was "quite relieved to not be wearing make-up for a film for the first time in her career.”
The film began to increase its casting profile after Malayalam actor Prithviraj was rumoured to have been signed to play an important role in the film. The rumour was falsified following the inclusion of Aadhi, who was known for his lead-role performances in Mirugam (2007) and Eeram (2009), in the cast; when he confirmed his presence in the project, he remarked that working with Rajinikanth was "a realisation of a dream that he has had since childhood".
Sneha was reported to be finalised for a supporting role, with the actress confirming her presence in the film in December 2013

She, however, opted-out a couple months later citing conflicts in her schedule and Rukmini Vijayakumar, who made her debut in the film Bommalattam (2008), was signed in her place] R. Sarathkumar accepted Soundarya's offer for an important role in the film while veteran actor Nassar was recruited in the film as well for a supporting role.
Furthermore, Shobana and Lakshmi Manchu were said to be considered for a role in the film. Soundarya confirmed that the former was added to the cast saying that she was the "only choice for the role" as the character was written keeping her in mind.Soundarya disclaimed the rumour that Aishwarya Rai was chosen to do a guest appearance in the filmBollywood actor Jackie Shroff, who was last seen in Tamil cinema playing a crucial role in the critically acclaimed Aaranya Kaandam (2011), was also signed up for an antagonistic role Shroff immediately gave his consent, when the cast and the technical scope of Kochadaiiyaan were revealed to him.

Peter Hein was chosen as the film's action choreographer, while A. R. Rahman agreed to compose the film's background score and soundtrack] Rajiv Menon was recruited as the film's cinematographer.Soundarya invited art professionals to send their work as she was forming an art department for Kochadaiiyaan She handpicked 42 students from Government College of Fine Arts, Chennai for the task, besides 50 experienced persons from the Jacob College of Fine Arts. 60 concept artistes were already reportedly working for the film.
Fashion designer Neeta Lulla has conceptualised the look for each of the characters in superstar Rajinikanth starrer Kochadaiiyaan - The Legend.

The movie, directed by Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, is India's first photorealistic performance capture film.

"Neeta has done an outstanding job on the costumes for Kochadaiyaan. The details in the armour and the weaponized look of the costumes really creates an impact. The photorealistic performance capture technology used in the film is extremely advanced and the work done on the costumes really shines through," Soundarya said.

Rajinikanth, 62, stars as a legendary mythological character in the film.

Lulla and her team immersed in extensive research to achieve the perfect look and deliver intricate luminosity to each of the garments designed for Kochadaiyaan.

"It feels totally wonderful to be a part of Kochadaiyaan. I am proud to be associated with Rajini Sir's venture which is directed by his daughter Soundarya. Being a part of Kochadaiyaan is definitely a milestone in my career. I think, the project is larger than life for two aspects- one being Rajini sir and the other being that it is a photo realistic motion capture film format that is a first of its kind.

"Its visual grandiosity conceived by Soundarya makes the scale of this project one of the biggest I have worked on," the designer said.

Thalaivaa (English: Leader) is a 2013 Tamil mob film directed and written by A. L. Vijay. The film features Vijay and Amala Paul in the lead roles, Abhimanyu Singh as the main antagonist, as well as Sathyaraj, Santhanam,
Ponvannan, Rajiv Pillai and Ragini Nandwani in supporting roles. The film, produced by Chandraprakash Jain, features background score and soundtrack composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar with cinematography handled by Nirav Shah. The film was released worldwide on 9 August 2013, except in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, where the film's release was delayed until released on 20 August 2013 due to controversies. The film received mixed response from critics & audiences.
In 1988, the slum of Dharavi in Bombay (now Mumbai) are ravaged by riots between the local Maharashtrians and the immigrant Tamilians following the death of Dharavi's Tamil mafia don Varadarajan Mudaliar
A Tamil coolie named Ramadurai (Sathyaraj), known as Anna among the locals, bravely fights the Maharashtrians and also encourages his fellow Tamilians to fight them. As a result, his wife Ganga (Rekha) is killed by the henchmen of the Marathi leader who instigated the riots. In retaliation, Ramadurai kills the Marathi leader following which he decides to step into Varadarajan Mudaliar's shoes and protect Dharavi.
He then gives away his young son Viswa to his friend Ratnam (Nassar) as he wants him to grow up away from the Bombay underworld. 25 years later, Ramadurai has established himself as a mafia don, providing his own brand of justice to protect the downtrodden and engaging in a bitter feud with the gang led by Bhima Bhai (Abhimanyu Singh), the son of the slain Marathi leader who has sworn to take revenge on Ramadurai for killing his father. With support from the Government of Maharashtra and the Mumbai police, Bhima Bhai manages to frame false cases against Ramadurai and his gang, as a result of which Ramadurai goes into hiding.

Meanwhile, Viswa (Vijay), who is now an adult, lives in Sydney and runs a mineral water bottling plant, assisted by his childhood friend Logu (Santhanam). He maintains contact with his father regularly, though he is oblivious of his activities in Mumbai. While driving one day, he runs into a young woman named Meera Narayanan (Amala Paul) and immediately falls in love with her. He pursues her till her house,
where her father (Suresh) takes an immediate liking to him. Soon, Meera reciprocates Viswa's feelings for her and together they revive her father's unprofitable restaurant business and win a local dance competition. Eventually,
she proposes to Viswa and expresses her intention to meet his father. When they arrive in Mumbai however, they are received by Ramadurai's assistant Ranga (Ponvannan), who takes only Viswa with him to Mahim Fort, where he finally meets his father after many years. After hearing his story, Ramadurai decides to meet Meera and her father at their hotel to finalise the wedding. It soon turns out that Meera is a police officer who knew that Viswa was Ramadurai's son and she along with another police officer (who pretended to be her father) decided to lure him to Mumbai to arrest his father by faking her love for him and pretending to show interest in meeting his father. Ramadurai is arrested, but as soon as he is locked in the police van, the van explodes, killing him. Viswa, who is also present, notices that the van was bombed by Bhima Bhai and his gang.

A distraught Viswa refuses to return to Australia and instead takes charge of his father's gang. After stopping a Bhima Bhai-led eviction drive in Dharavi, he is arrested and brutally beaten by the police, only to be released after Meera intervenes. However, his resilience and attempt to stand up to Bhima Bhai makes him a hero among the downtrodden and is hailed as the successor of Ramadurai.

Later, clashes between Maharashtrians and non-Maharashtrians take place at Matunga. Video Kumar (Udhaya), who is video recording a Gujarati wedding there, finds out that Bhima Bhai and his henchmen are responsible for instigating the riots in order to lure Viswa there and kill him. He records their conversation, but is immediately noticed by them, who pursue and kill him. However, they are not able to steal the tape where their conversation was recorded as it had been stolen from Kumar while he was escaping from them in a local train. Viswa finds out about the incident and immediately tracks the pickpocket who stole the tape, acquiring the tape much before Bhima Bhai and his henchmen acquire it. When the tape is made public,
Bhima Bhai is arrested.

Some days later, at the Maha Shivaratri celebrations at Dharavi, Viswa and his men get drunk. The next morning, he realises that six of his men, along with a young Gujarati woman Gowri (Ragini Nandwani), who had a crush on Viswa, were killed the previous night while he was drunk. He also finds out that Ranga has been kidnapped by Bhima Bhai, who has escaped from prison and is keeping him prisoner in a fort. He immediately rushes there, only to find out that Ranga was working for Bhima Bhai all along. Ranga had killed Viswa's henchmen when Viswa was drunk and also killed Gowri after she saved Viswa from being killed. He stabs Viswa and escapes with one of Viswa's henchmen (who is oblivious of Ranga's double agent role).
After finding out that Ranga had killed Viswa and was a traitor, he dashes the car they are in into an oil truck, killing them both. It is then revealed that Viswa did not die as claimed by Ranga, but is still fighting Bhima Bhai and his henchmen at the fort. After subduing all the henchmen, he finally stabs Bhima Bhai in the neck, killing him. Soon, Meera arrives there with the police and after finding out that Viswa killed Bhima Bhai and his henchmen, she shoots their dead bodies to show that she killed Bhima Bhai because she has now fallen in love with Viswa as a result of which she doesn't have the heart to arrest him. She then resigns from the police.

The movie ends with Viswa and Meera getting married. Also, the surviving members of Bhima Bhai's gang, unwilling to face Viswa, flee Mumbai.

What to look out for
As in the opening credits director Vijay thanks his mentors Mani Ratnam and RGV.. Thalaivaa is the director tribute to his masters.. the quality of a high octane gangster movie is evident from director's Vijay's work in the beginning and he does a neat job. The detailing is evident like the poster of bollywood movies of the 80's in the backdrop during the opening scenes.. he introduces actor Vijay very well to the audience and his transformation from a dancer to a gangster isn,t sudden..
Vijay slowly and gradually develops the transformation while engaging the audience in the act. The final cat and mouse game is a highlight and Vijay's outburst at the hospital is heartwarming and comes with a message.
Actor Vijay is in complete command over here.. in one word he is Brilliant.
Satyaraj is fantastic and completely natural. Amala Paul leaves her mark and gets a meaty role. Santhanam is funny. G.V. Prakash Kumar music has two good numbers TamizhPasanga and the title track. Technicalities are fine. Nirav Shah lense work is eye pleasing. Ragini Nandwani is okay.
What not
Thalaivaa falls prey to the push and pull of commercial cinema and artistic excellence. In order to add more contrast director Vijay takes his own sweet time in making Vijay the Thalaivaa and forces us to sit through the romantic angle which gets stretched for too long and the momentum looses making the audience feel whether they are watching a rom com.
The second love angle was not at all necessary. The villain Abhimanu Singh is a letdown.  Action is routine.
Conclusion: Thalaivaa is something between a classy gangster flick or a racy action drama..it may not be the best gangster drama but certainly is driven by Vijay.s terrific performance.. watch it for your favourite Vijay he leads Thalaivaa in a league of its own..

Both Arya and Sathya went through many scripts before selecting the script of Kadhal 2 Kalyanam, in which Sathya would be essaying the role of a radio jockey.[Sathya, after being assigned for the role, had visited Bollywood actor Anupam Kher's acting school in Mumbai to "hone his acting skills",

before starting to shoot, besides sitting with and observing professional radio jockeys at a radio station.Divya Spandana signed the film in October 2008, shortly after completing her third Tamil film Vaaranam Aayiram, describing her character as a "

career-oriented, independent woman in the corporate world."Further more, former lead actress Jayashree was signed in November 2008 for a significant role, which would mark her comeback to feature films after a decade. In December 2008,

Kasthuri was roped in to appear in a supporting role and play the wife to the character essayed by Nagendra Prasad, while John Vijay accepted to play a drunkard in the film. The film's shooting, however, got stalled midway in 2009 due to unknown reasons and was resumed in 2010 only.

The trailer of 'Kadhal 2 Kalyanam' directed by newcomer Milind Rau starring Arya's brother Sathya and Divya Spandana (Ramya) in the lead roles has been released for the fans. Produced by Mirchi Movies, the film is a romantic comedy which is expected to hit the screens in September.

National Award winning and noted film critic Baradwaj Rangan had written the dialogues, while Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the film's score and soundtrack and the album was released in March 2011. Sathya would be essaying the role of a radio jockey with Anuja Iyer, Nagendra Prasad, John Vijay and Kasthuri play pivotal roles.

The soundtrack to the film was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The songs were composed and recorded in 2009 and 2010, with Chinmayi during the release time stating that she had recorded her song more than two years back, and Yuvan Shankar citing that he had handed over the Master recording in September 2010. However, due to the long delay in the making of the film, the soundtrack album was released in March 2011 only, after several postponements. Though Sony Music released the album in a "soft audio launch" directly to stores on 18 March, a special launch was later held on Radio Mirchi where all songs were unveiled and airplayed, with Arya, Sathya and Milind participating.

The album features six songs overall, with Yuvan Shankar Raja himself, who stated on Twitter that the songs would be "young and fresh",[30] having lent his voice for one of the songs. The album also features singer-composer Toshi Sabri's first song in Tamil, which was his second collaboration with Yuvan Shankar after the song "Seheri" in Oy!. Telugu singer-actor Anuj Gurwara was also supposed to have to sung one song in the film,[31] which however, was not featured in the soundtrack album. The song "Naa Vetta Pora Aadu" was co-sung by Ragini Sri, a participant in the second season of the reality-based singing competition Airtel Super Singer, however, she was falsely credited as Roshini in the first batch of CDs.

All lyrics written by Snehan, except where noted.

Cinematography is by Soorya.A.R, editing by Antony, stunts by Anal Arasu, lyrics by Vaali and Yugabharathi.]The film released with highly positive reviews. The film did an average business at the boxoffice.

The plot revolves around Karthik and Shwetha, who are college mates and they hail from upper-middle-class families. While in college, they meet through some common friends and hang out often as a group. Shwetha has a childhood friend Genni,
who is very protective of her and often wards off the boys who try to hit on Shwetha, and Karthik's friend Jai on the other hand encourages him to fall in love. Karthik falls in love with Shwetha eventually, but he hesitates to tell her. On Shwetha's birthday, Karthik intends to propose her but when he hesitates yet again, Jai lets the cat out of the bag, and tells that Karthik loves her, but then Shwetha responds in the negative. After a series of pursuing and some serious drama like falling from the moving bus, Shwetha agrees to Karthik's proposal.

Genni advises Shwetha to avoid Karthik, so she doesn't tell her about the recent developments in her love story. But Genni happens to find out about them, and she confronts Shwetha. Shwetha seems to apologize, but after Genni finds that Shwetha has made Karthik to overhear their conversation by keeping her mobile on call with him,
she fights and splits up from Shwetha and complains to Shwetha's mom that she is going out with some guy. Shwetha manages her mom by blaming that Genni is of bad character and that is why she left her. So to seek revenge, she must be doing this on purpose. Her mom gets suspicious but still believes Shwetha's side of the story.

Karthik and Shwetha continue to see each other.Soon one thing leads to another and they often be in the company of each other and get intimate during overnight trips and outings. Within two months, Shwetha finds that she has missed her period, coincidentally her mom asks why she has not used her sanitary napkins and there are so many left overs. She manages the situation by telling that she used the pads from her friend's house when she stayed there.

Shwetha confides in Karthik and few other friends that she might be pregnant and they ask her to perform a self pregnancy test which turns out to be positive. So they go to some unknown place to abort the foetus posing as a married couple. But the doctor gets suspicious when they answer irrelevantly and chucks them out. They find another person who does the abortion through a hostel warden and learn that this new place is pretty expensive. Karthik, Shwetha,
Jai and other friends try to arrange for money and finally on the day the abortion is supposed to be done, Shwetha vomits in front of her mother at her house. When her mom insists that they go to a doctor to check for food poisoning, Shwetha becomes restless and shouts at her. Her mom relates the unused pads and her vomiting and her behaviour and realises that she is pregnant and then all commotion starts.

Shwetha's dad speaks to Karthik's dad along with few relatives, and they argue. Shwetha's family, being on the receiving end want to finish the problem by getting them married. But Karthik's dad is not interested since his reputation will be spoiled. So, the lovers plan to elope and while they are on the way, Shwetha changes her mind and tells that her parents will feel bad.
Karthik on the other hand tells that his parents will not agree for them to be together. They argue a lot and that forms a rift between them, but still they stay together and return. The families continue to argue about the marriage, and then finally Karthik's parents agree, provided Shwetha aborts the baby. But she refuses telling that the sole evidence will be lost and then again Karthik's parents will not get them married.

Karthik tries to convince her,but it only leads to another argument with Shwetha walking off leaving Karthik and pissing him off. The parents argue about the marriage and when some relatives speak bad about Shwetha and her character being a girl, she has acted like a prostitute and so she must take money for her services and not ask for marriage,
Shwetha's father gets insulted and he leaves the place in tears. When Shwetha's mom knows this, she fights with Karthik's parents in front of their house,
but Karthik has now changed his mind about marrying Shwetha because of the previous argument between them and he doesn't care anymore and is hard hearted and selfish when her whole family is in tears in front of his house.
That is when Shwetha too decides that she doesn't want to be with Karthik anymore. And they leave his place.

Finally, it is shown that few months later a baby is born and Shwetha's dad leaves it in an orphanage. Few years later, we find that Shwetha is happily getting engaged to someone else, while Karthik is busy in a coffee shop flirting with another girl and the little child grows up in the orphanage without parental love and care.
The soundtrack of the film was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. There are six songs but only four will be featured in the album as the director feels that the lyrics of the other two songs would give out the plot details. These two songs will only be a part of the film. The audio launch was held on October 17 at Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai. The first audio CD was released by actor Mohan and received by director-actor K. Bhagyaraj.
The music was praised by critics. Behindwoods wrote, "Yuvan Shankar Raja proves why he is the ‘Little Maestro’ in the finale of the movie and the little pathos song sung by Yuvan himself, will surely move you".[1The Hindu wrote,
"topping the list of other highlights is Yuvan Shankar Raja’s score. The songs have been chartbusters for quite a while. Now you notice his RR beautifully enhancing the mood of the sequences".[ The New Indian Express wrote,
"Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score is a key strength to the film".Rediff wrote, "music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is melodious and pleasing to the ear, particularly the Poovum Poovum number by Vijay Yesudas and Vinaitha". Sify wrote, "Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is peppy and the pathos song sung by the music director in the climax and picturised on the child artist is heart-warming and will move you to tears".[

Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer is an experience not to be missed". Sify wrote, "Suseenthiran is back in form with his latest realistic Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer.
He has come out with a different kind of film which is sure to pull at your heartstrings and at the same time make you think of the realities of life".
S Saraswathi of Rediff gave 3 stars out of 5 and wrote "Aadhalaal Kaadhal Seiveer is a must watch. A simple and honest screenplay with a liberal dose of realism coupled with some excellent editing, but most of all, the totally unexpected climax, sets this film apart".
