Horror Story is a Bollywood dramatic horror film written by Vikram Bhatt and directed by Ayush Raina The film stars Ravish Desai, Hasan Zaidi, and features the Bollywood movie debut of television actor Karan Kundra. The film is slated to release on September 13, 2013.The plot revolves around a night spent by seven youngsters at a haunted hotel and sequels are already being planned.
Background
Of the film, Bhatt has stated that he did not want Horror Story to contain any songs or any sex scenes. He also remarked that he wanted to avoid casting "big stars" in the film, as he believed that they "cannot turn the audience fearful" in what he termed as a "hardcore horror film".[ Star Ravish Desai has commented that the movie will be the first in a franchise and that planning for further films has already begun.

Synopsis
A group of 7 youngsters-4 guys and 3 girls decide to spend a night at a reportedly haunted hotel to celebrate the farewell of one of them leaving for the USA. Despite people's warnings and other "signs" trying to ward them off from there, they enter the hotel, and then the truth dawns on them.
The film opens with a man entering the deserted hotel Grandiose all by himself. He proceeds to room 3046, and for reasons unknown, he then goes to the terrace and jumps off to the ground, killing himself.
The plot then moves to seven friends - Sam alias Samrat, Magesh, Achint, Neel, Neena, Sonia and Magi reunite after several years apart to celebrate the farewell of one of their friends, who is going abroad in order to pursue his career and fulfill his goals. As the group gathers at a local pub, they learn on the news broadcast about an abandoned hotel with a reputation or being haunted. Despite this, a builder decided to refurbish the ruins into a five star hotel, but was unsuccessful and committed suicide as a result- although rumors state that he was pushed by a ghost of one of the asylum's inmates. Intrigued by these rumors, the group decides to explore the abandoned building but soon come across strange and inexplicable occurrences, much against the warnings of the barman.
The group of seven arrive at the hotel but find that it is locked. It would be as though something is warning them to keep away, but Sam, the most hyperactive of all, remains adamant on entering. The group decide to leave, but then on hearing a radio playing somewhere, they think that there must be someone inside, and try to gain entry through the back door. They do find one and enter the hotel. As they proceed in, the door closes and disappears into the wall.
The group starts to explore the hotel. with Sam leading everyone and trying to play the fool and scare everyone. Neena starts to observe strange things, but Neel brushes her claims aside. They then come across a room with a TV set on with no transmission or power, and a voice saying "welcome". Still not taken aback, they proceed to room 3406,

a supposedly notorious suite room, and here Sam is killed first when he enters the bathroom on hearing someone turning on the shower. the group then flee the room in chaos and panic, too shocked to believe that Sam has been brutally killed by someone or something. But to their utter shock, they are not able to find the door through which they came in. It soon dawns on the 6 of them that they are trapped inside the hotel with no way out.
Magesh and Achint decide to go to the terrace to gain network range for their mobile phones. But on the way they are confronted by ghostly figures, and Magesh is killed by one when he tries to approach a moving wheelchair out of curiosity. Achint goes into hiding, and when Magesh and Achint don't return, the remaining 4 go in search of them. Achint is found, and the group heads towards the terrace,when they are attached by a ghostly looking woman, who now starts to terrorize them. Sonia gets stuck while escaping and is dragged into the darkness by the ghost, while the others make a miserable escape to elsewhere in the hotel.
With 3 people dead, the remaining 4 decide that they must stay together because the ghost / killer attacks them when they are alone.

So again they move to find an escape. Son they are confronted by Sonia, whom Achint and Neel think is just the ghost trying to get them, but a tearful Sonia tells them it is she, and that she was taken to some room where came across some material. The group read it and
come to know that the hotel was first a mental asylum,
where a possessed girl by name Maya was admitted after she murdered all her family members. Maya would always claim to have 'married the devil', and would become bvery violent at the hispoital, even killing the treating doctors. One day a fire would break out , killing all the inmates. A hotel wouls be started at the site, but that too would not run because of strange happenings. The group soon realize that t is Maya who is terrorizing them.
Sonia tries to contact Maya to know what she wants, at which she gets a call from Maya, saying that the spirit wants to kill them all, nothing else.

The terrified group then decide to stay together, come what may. Soon they realize that Sonia is actually dead and it is Maya speaking through her. The remaining 4-Achint, Neel, Magi and Neelam now flee to the basement and find an abandoned jeep, which they start and try to get out of the hotel,

. After a tiring drive, through misty areas, the group reach someplace new, only to find that they are back at the door of room 3406.
Then they realize that the only way to escape is to survive till dawn. Neena ask the time from Neel only get to know that it is the same which she had seen on the clocks in one of the rooms shortle after entering the hotel believing that it is some kind of intuition. They decide to go back to same room to understand Neena's extrasensory perception. They find a book which has paranormal explanations and a way to locate the energy source of dark spirits.
With the help of incantations from the book they have hallucinations about the past when the hotel was actually a mental asylum where they find out the energy source of dark spirit in a shock machine. They decide to burn it down to end the horrer.
Neel and Maggie go to kitchen in search of inflammable where Maggie is killed by Maya. Back in the room Archit is beheaded by the spirit leaving only Neel and Neena alive. Neel sympathize Neena to calm down and try to burn the machine before he is pulled by the spirit into the nearby closet.
Then the spirit start terrorizing Neena and pushed her out to the main hall.
After regaining her composure Neena
decide to finish the task and amidst ghostly apparitions and obstructions she manages to burn the machine resulting in the destruction of Maya's spirit. The film ends with the opening of enterence gates of hotel and being the only survivor, Neena walks out of the hotel.
Vikram Bhatt's filmography reads a fascinating mix of thrillers and horror fares. As a matter of fact, the maverick filmmaker has delivered several blood curdling, spine chilling horror films that have also worked with those who savor and relish this genre. This week, Vikram serves yet another spooky fare to the spectators - HORROR STORY.
Unlike Vikram's previous endeavours, HORROR STORY doesn't have space for romance, skin show and songs. Consequently, and rightly so, the run time is limited to a sharp 1.30 hours, so that the viewer stays focussed. The motive is to create a hardcore scarefest, focusing on seven youngsters and a haunted hotel. Perfect recipe for a horror film, indeed. But does HORROR STORY live up to its title and offer sufficient chills and thrills, let's find out...
Paranormal phenomenon has a mix of believers and nonbelievers, as were these seven youngsters. They were friends from their school/college days and were meeting after many years to celebrate. One of them was leaving to pursue his goal and career abroad. The night of their reunion was supposed to be a farewell party, however it turned out to be something else.
A chance news announcement on the telly that was playing at the pub caught their attention which soon resulted in a drunken debate and before they knew it, they were gatecrashing into a hotel that was believed to be haunted. Their objective was to have some fun. Little did they know that this would turn out to be the most horrendous night of their life... rather, the last night of their life!
One fateful night. A haunted hotel. A ghost. Seven youngsters who don't believe in the paranormal... Director Ayush Raina chooses the desirable ingredients to create a ghostly environ, but the true test lies in frightening the spectator with spine chilling moments. Several Hollywood fares have redefined the genre and the bar for horror films has been upped for this reason. HORROR STORY follows the set pattern, promising to give the audience goosebumps and an edge of the seat experience. Besides, by doing away with the mandatory song and dance routine, Ayush remains firmly focused on the subject material.
The film abounds in scares, shocks and screams, with the viewer clenching his teeth and sticking to the seat at several sequences. There are moments when you are truly terrified thanks to the scary mood and lighting, while the sound plays an integral part in startling the spectator in certain sequences. But what ails most horror films troubles HORROR STORY as well. The ghost goes on a killing spree for no valid reason whatsoever. Also, the re-emergence of the hotel owner in the climax, who had committed suicide, seems abrupt. I mean, if he was so concerned about saving the lives of the innocent, why didn't he emerge earlier? The minor hiccups notwithstanding, you go with the flow because you get your share of chills and thrills right till the final act. Besides, like I pointed at the outset, the director and the team of writers stay true to the genre of providing a scarefest in those 1.30 hours, which needs to be appreciated.
The background music hits the high notes on varied occasions. Perhaps, it's premeditated since after an eerie silence, a high-pitched musical note would only startle the spectator, thus enhancing the scare quotient. Cinematography is just perfect. In fact, the lighting of a few sequences, especially the pitch dark ones, deserves mention. The visual effects are appropriate.
The director experiments with new faces in HORROR STORY, since the plot doesn't demand 'stars' or actors who carry the baggage of an image. Yet, there's not much scope for the new talent to display histrionics here. Karan Kundra [as Neil] is efficient. Ravish Desai [as Mangesh] gets limited scope. Hassan Zaidi [as Samrat] is confident. Nishant Malkani [as Achint] gets his role spot on. Nandini Vaid [as Soniya] is alright. Aparna Bajpai [as Maggie] is perfect. Radhika Menon [as Neena] gets the meatiest role of the lot and does a fine job.
On the whole, HORROR STORY should be liked by horror film buffs and those who relish this genre. Most importantly, it lives up to its promise of providing chills and thrills in those crisp 1.30 hours, which should work with its target audience. Additionally, the low costs should ensure decent profits at the end of the day and help create a franchise in times to com
